WINDY HILLS TREE BOARD
MINUTES September 10, 2015

A meeting of the Windy Hills Tree Board was held on Thursday, September 10, 2015, 7:00 P.M. at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2501 Rudy Lane.

Members present were: Martha Davis, Chair, Amy Carter, Marcia Myers, Cheri Silvey-Slusher, Jodi Smiley, and Cathy Thompson. Also present were Mike Hayman, Certified Arborist and City Council Representative Kate Greer.

Minutes: Minutes from July 2, 2015 were approved. No meeting was held in August 2015.

Financial Report: – Balances as of August 31, 2015
Tree Board Account – $7721.44 Arborist Account – $1537.50

Chairperson Report: – Martha Davis –
The Tree Board Work Plan was approved by Council on 8-10-15.
The City has agreed to assess and care for the Ambridge Road trees.
The Master Tree List now contains over 300 trees that have been planted in Windy Hills.

City of Windy Hills Report: – Kate Greer
The Code Enforcement Officer has resigned. Steve Teaford has been approved for the job.
The City will sponsor an Ice Cream Social on Sunday, October 11, 2015 3-5 p.m.
A finer grade of mulch has been placed on The Green path.
Some trees planted by the City on Westport Road have been lost and will be replaced.

Arborist Report: – Mike Hayman
Mike is working on trees for Rudy Lane canopy restoration and trees for the entrance to Bentwood Place. Trees are in short supply. Mike has identified and held 10 rare double-flowered redbud trees “Pink Pom-Poms” to be planted in Windy Hills as appropriate.
Mike shared the Richlawn City Beautification Ordinance for the information of members.

2015-16 Work Plan Update –
A letter was sent to 25 Rudy Lane residents inviting them to participate in the canopy restoration project. There were 5 positive responses by the September 10, 2015 deadline.

By unanimous vote, the Tree Board agreed to extend the 2015 canopy renewal project until fall planting time (as determined by Arborist Mike Hayman). Tree Board members will identify areas of need and communicate with Chair Martha Davis who will send a letter to residents in that area inviting them to participate by receiving a tree and committing to care for it.

WHTB 2016 -In light of the end-of-year member rotation and her departure from the Board at that time, Chair Martha Davis asked members to consider membership and leadership needs for 2016.

New Business – An idea was proposed for consideration that some trees planted by the Board’s efforts near the loop sidewalk be labeled for the education and enjoyment of residents as they walk. The idea was tabled for further thought.

The next meeting will be Thursday, October 1st.
