TREE BOARD MINUTES
June 3, 2018
PRESENT: Cheri Silvey-Slusher, Jody Mudd, Laura Trachtenberg, Mayor Ising, Caroline Westfall, Kate Greer
The minutes of the last meeting were approved.
The Board will ask the Council to approve two new members at the Council Meeting Monday night. They are Bruce Blue and Scott Breland.
The Tree Board budget has $4573.12.
As no one on Clerkenwell seems to want a tree, the Board voted to replace sick or dead trees in the Ambridge right-of-way. Plant Kingdom has ordered a fringe tree to replace the first tree on the left from Rudy Lane. There is a dead one at the other end of Ambridge. Andy Smart, the Plant Kingdom arborist is going to determine what type it is. The Windy Hills Garden Club donated $350 to replace the fringe tree.
Andy Smart contacted Kate and reported that one of the trees planted on the Indian Ridge give-away died (but not in the year it was guaranteed), The Plant Kingdom said it will replace it at a great discount and will plant it free. The Board agreed to replace it.
As the Arbor Day will be celebrated at the Ice Cream Social (September 23), plans were discussed. Caroline showed us the coloring books for the children and the scavenger hunt for all.
Jody Mudd will have a table promoting Recycling at both Arbor Day and Fourth of July picnic.
The Arbor Day sign is at Brownsboro Lawn Care.
Any trees given away or planted by the Board will have water bags and tree guards. Kate will make the guards. Bags are $16 each at Amazon.
Caroline reported that Otis Coleman (6498 Keith Springs Circle) asked for help with his Siberian Elms that are damaged. Caroline believes that the trees present a danger. The City partnered with Metro and paid to have another stretch of Rudy pruned last year. The issue will be reexamined after
The November election.
The next meeting will be Thursday, August 23, at 7:00.
