Tree Board Minutes January 2018

TREE BOARD MINUTES

 January 9, 2018

PRESENT:  Cheri Siley-Slusher, Laura Trachenberg, Jodi Smiley, Jody Mudd, Matt Shrewsberry,

And Caroline Westfall (arborist).

The financial Report was given by Cheri. The board has approximately $3200 balance.

Cheri reported on the letters to residents of Clerkenwell: No residents responded to the letters. The letters were addressed to the addresses, but did not have the resident’s names on the letters.  We are going to send the letters again, using the resident’s names. We will also canvass the residents in person to see if they are interested. If we still get no response, we will look into alternative streets.

Watering bags have not been ordered, and it was decided we will wait to order the bags after we see what type of response we get from residents for trees.

Two members of the board have resigned due to their moving out of the city: Ward Wilson and Sean Dahany.  Four potential new members responded to the email blast for new members. We will contact them to see if they are still interested, and request they write a short email as to why they would like to be on the board.

With the new members, we need new name tags. These will be made.

The Pine straw has been laid down at Rudy and Regency. We will also plant some bulbs or low maintenance bushes in that area.  Adam can manage these.

Tree City USA is complete, and we are now designated a Tree City.

Continuing the discussion on hazardous trees, Jim Hodge will send letters to people with problem trees. The letters will indicate that the arborist has identified the tree as a potential hazard.  The city will not pay for any tree removal not on the right of way.

ARBOR DAY

Arbor Day will be Sunday April 15. We will have it on the Green, from 2 – 4 PM. There will be a drawing for two trees. The winners will receive a voucher for $350.00, which must be used by 12/31/18.

Cookies and water will be available. There will also be a table with potting soil, peat pots, and seeds.

There will be a tree identification game for residents and children. We will map out the trees on the Green, and people will match the type of tree with its position on the Green. Prizes of seed packets will be given.

WH GREEN: Mike Skelton has said he would like to plant a border area by the private houses.

The next meeting will be the Tuesday March 6, 2018.
